Overview

This role is for somebody who wants to build a serious career in mortgage and protection advice but understands that success in broking requires much more than passing an examination.

We want people who are commercially minded, personable, persistent and prepared to develop relationships and generate opportunities. This is not a salaried corporate graduate scheme where opportunities are simply handed to somebody — the successful candidate will need to develop relationships, generate business and progressively build their own client bank. Lockhart Murphy provides the platform, support, technology, training environment and brand. The individual still needs to build the business.

What you'll do

  • Supporting mortgage and protection cases
  • Learning the complete client journey
  • Developing new client relationships
  • Building relationships with estate agents, accountants, solicitors, developers and other professional introducers
  • Following up enquiries and opportunities
  • Learning how to generate and convert mortgage leads
  • Building a personal client bank
  • Developing protection opportunities
  • Using Lockhart Murphy systems and CRM
  • Maintaining excellent client service
  • Working towards becoming a fully competent Mortgage & Protection Adviser

What we're looking for

  • CeMAP 1 minimum
  • Strong ambition to complete full CeMAP
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Commercial awareness
  • Confidence speaking to clients and professional contacts
  • Ability and willingness to generate opportunities rather than waiting for leads to arrive
  • Strong organisation
  • Persistent and proactive mentality
  • Professional conduct

How you'll succeed

  • Treat CeMAP as the entry requirement, not the finish line — the exam gets you in the room, relationships and follow-through get you the case
  • Follow up every enquiry and introducer conversation until you get a real answer, not just the easy ones
  • Build relationships with estate agents, accountants and solicitors deliberately, not as an afterthought once cases go quiet
  • Use the CRM properly from day one — the clients you're slow to follow up on are the ones a more organised adviser will convert instead
  • Expect a genuine build phase — a personal client bank takes time and consistency, not a single good month

What Lockhart Murphy provides

  • A structured route from trainee through to fully competent adviser
  • The Lockhart Murphy brand, technology and CRM
  • A compliance framework and training environment
  • Support from experienced advisers as you build your case load
  • Access to professional introducer relationships as you develop your own
